The 10 Commandments of Joedaism

The 10 Commandments of Joedaism…in no particular order, and subject to change as I grow more brilliant.

Heal Yourself
As bad as today is, it’s a new day tomorrow
Know your past. It is the key to understanding your future
Exercise every day, especially if you are bored or depressed
Religion can be a powerful thing, but use it to unite, not to divide
Be addicted to nothing, everything in moderation
Believe in a power greater than yourself
No smoking anything of any kind
Question all authority
True health is 99% mental

Next time…Dr Joe pontificates on everybody’s favorite four letter word – diet.

Exercise - Meditation in Motion

A friend of mine once laughed at me as I prepared to go out for a run on an impossibly hot Florida afternoon, “What’s it gonna say on your tombstone?” He jested, “He died healthy?”.“Well,” I countered, “I’d like to think more like ‘He lived healthy’”.
Not exercising is the bane of most of our Western medical and to much of a degree, psychiatric ailments. A recent report noted 90% of all cardiovascular disease could be prevented by exercise.
For me, exercise is more than a way to augment my health, it is a way for me to keep my sanity.
My routine is quiet fixed, I have been doing this now for over 15 years. 3 days a week run, between 20-40 min depending on my time available, the weather, etc. 3 days a week swimming 30 min and weights/stretching 15 minutes.
1 day a week off.
Add to that some bicycling time permitting, and whatever else comes my way, be it a surf, a skate, some ball sports.
The important thing is to choose your weapon. Everyone needs a sport, and sport is our way to fight the battle of the bulge, keep our sanity, detox our bodies, and center our minds. At the center of all Joedaism’s principles is sport.
Sport is also about playing, feeling like a kid a gain.
For some, its about having a routine, a purpose, a challenge.
It doesn’t matter what your do, pick a sport, pick tow and do it.
You can do it by yourself, you can make it a social event.
You can compete against others, you can compete against yourself.
Dedicate your resources to your sport. Buy the gear. Consecrate the time. Make it a religious practice.
The health effects are life giving, lower blood pressure, lower glucose levels, lower lipid levels, increased circulation.
The mental benefits are also life giving, increasing endorphins, fighting addiction, depression, anxiety. Find a new strength in yourself, channel your neurotic behaviors into a more pure form.
The end result is that exercise is something that you do to yourself, for yourself. You have to do it every day, 30 minutes at least, for the rest of your life. Whatever condition you currently are in, find some way to get started. After 3 months of training, you may be ready to advance to something else more intense.
And best of all, you may never need to see the Doctor again.

The 1st Secret: Be the Semi-permeable Membrane

The semipermeable membrane is a unique form of filter that is used in chemistry to allow two solutions to be divided with the particles dissolved in them to move freely across their concentration gradients. Particles in high distribution dissolve to the side with less particles. Think of it as the affect of gravity in water. The end result is that the solutes in the two solutions reach a state of equilibrium, and then the motion stabilizes.
So too must we be in our mind’s inner sanctum. A state of chaos, a state of flux, causes us to flood catecholamines, stress hormones, to be anxious, to be nervous, to be depressed. What allows for the balance of elements in science is the semipermeability of the membrane. Imagine trying to make a state of equilibrium across as solid wall. There are solid walls all around us. Trying to keep us out. Trying to keep us in. What is important to us than in acquiring harmony between our inner and outer reality is to dissolve our walls, let down our boundaries, and selectively filter in and out the right amount of energy to maintain our balance.
Joedaism teaches a simple meditative technique to help practitioners grasp the basis of mentation. Keep in mind, these are simple techniques, but what lies underneath them is what is truly important. These meditative techniques harvest a certain state of mind, a piece of being, that sometimes can only come to light with the understanding of restrospect. Patience. Try this technique daily. Soon you will See.
Here is how it is done:
1) Close your eyes.
2) Breath. Slowly.
3) Imagine the inside of your head, feel the sides above your ears. Feel the counters of the back of your face. Feel the curvature of your skull from the top of your head back to the base of your neck. Draw a solid line to outline your entire skull from the inside.
4) Hold this 3D image of your head in your mind. Imagine it to be filled in completely with concrete. Imagine it is heavy.
5) Now slide this concrete impression of your skull out the left side of your head into space. Now pull it back in.
6) Repeat this on the right.
7) Now take the image and shoot it out the top of your head far out above you into space.
8) Now explode the image, as if 1000 lbs of TNT exploded inside it, sending shards of your concrete head spreading in all directions all throughout the galaxies.
9) Now sit quietly in the empty vault that is your inner sanctum.
10) Redraw the boundaries of your empty head again from inside, but this time with a dotted line.
11) Imagine energy now moving in and out of your head through the dots in the line.
12) Stay still in this moment, now you have tasted the 1st degree of enlightenment.
13) Return here often, either through this exercise, one you create on your own, or if you achieve the ability, come directly to this place with no prior preparation.
14) Now you are ready to confront the world.

Welcome Friends to the New Age of Joedaism

Welcome to Joedaism.
My name is Joe.
Joedaism is a new philosophical worldview that I have slowly been mulling around in my consciousness for many decades of life.
My background is varied.
I am currently a medical doctor by profession, training in one of the nations largest university affiliated programs.
Before I was a medical doctor, I have been a student, a soldier, a hermit, an ascetic, a teacher, an athlete, a musician, a world traveller, and a humble student of life.
I see now many patients nearing the end of their lives, and while once I thought age brought requisite wisdom, I see now many people reach the end of life never having felt like they lived a life of fulfillment. Couple with that the total lack of self preservation for their physical bodies and we have what I consider to be the ultimate tragedy of our age: total disconnect between body, spirit, and mind.
It is the hope of my blog to bring you some of my wisdom, both as one who has lived and overcome internal and external challenges, and as one who now serves society by helping heal others by profession.
In short, the fundamental aim of Joedaism, is to teach you to HEAL YOURSELF.
Soon periodic updates will be coming to this blog site, when I have time to meditate on a practical area of Joedaism and share it with you my fellow denizens of the Earth.
Welcome to a new age of enlightenment,
Joe.
